The Chic Geek: Outfits Inspired by the Villains of Star Wars: The Clone Wars

“Join the dark side.” Normally, I would advise you to resist joining in with the Sith, but when it comes to style, dark lords sure know how to dress to impress! Get your Imperial Catwalk on, and get ready for some wardrobe inspiration from the villains of the Clone Wars: lots of dark colors await you!

 dooku collage

The leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and Sith apprentice to Darth Sidious, Count Dooku is one of the most powerful individuals in the galaxy. Also known as Darth Tyranus, Dooku spends his days overseeing the droid army and trying to lure neutral planets into joining the Separatist cause. Dooku has many enemies, including the Jedi Order and former Sith apprentices, all of whom he personally betrayed.

Dooku only cares for power, not fashion, but his look is collected and exhumes power. Channel this dark power into an office-worthy outfit with slick black trousers, a jewel tone tank, and a smart blazer. If you’re not the type to run around in heels, try a pair of oxfords; they’re classy without adding too much height. Now take your bad self and conquer the galaxy! Or maybe just the office clutter.

General Grievous, a cyborg and Supreme Commander of the Separatist Army, has hunted down and killed many Jedi in his lifetime. With his collection of fallen Jedi’s lightsabers, he is able to fight in ways ordinary men cannot. He is cunning and cruel, and never backs down from a fight, especially with worthy opponents such as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Since Grievous is a cyborg, he doesn’t have much say in what he gets to wear.  Channel your inner robot with a structured peplum jacket, and a warrior-worthy dress sure to turn heads. The green dress and blue dress reflect Grievous’ collection of Jedi lightsabers, so wear them with pride. Your combat style isn’t complete without a fabulous pair of heels. While you may not be able to track down a Republic solider to fight, you can certainly intimidate any office enemy in this work-approved outfit.

Surprise! You probably thought Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated Darth Maul, didn’t you? Despite being bisected by rival Kenobi, Maul survived and escaped to Lotho Minor, the trash dump of the galaxy. Here, he remained alone with his thoughts and was driven to insanity (as if being a Sith Lord didn’t make you crazy enough). Freed from his exile by his brother Savage, Maul sought control of the galactic criminal underworld, bringing chaos with him wherever he went.

I hope you haven’t picked a fight with Kenobi; you’re going to want legs to show off in this slinky number. A studded bracelet pays homage to Maul’s head spikes and helps to channel your inner dark side. Slip on a pair of scaly heels, and smoke up those eyes – you’re ready for a taste of the dark side (or perhaps a night of dancing).

Put away your lightsabers and break out the Force Lightning; it’s good to bad, at least style-wise. While we shouldn’t strive to destroy the galaxy and unbalance the Force, we can try to add some power and poise into our everyday fashion. It might not win us the Republic, but it will win some style points.

What do you think? How are you going to add some evil into your style?

Have a lovely malevolent day!

The Chic Geek: Outfits Inspired by the Ladies of the Clone Wars

Image

If you’re not familiar with this face, get your Netflix open and start binge watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This girl is Ahsoka Tano, and she is the badass Padawan of Anakin Skywalker. She often accompanies Anakin and his former Master Obi-Wan Kenobi on missions and battles during the Clone Wars, fought between the Clone army of the Galactic Republic and the droid troops of the Separatists. Ahsoka is smart and resourceful, though she, like her Master, has trouble following the rules. Though this warrior girl may not have much time for fashion, her style still packs a serious punch. Ahsoka favors dark colors, like burgundy and black, and cutouts are commonplace.

The backless pink dress both represents Ahsoka’s typical battle outfit and her femininity. Kickass patterned leggings and combat boots bring a tough girl attitude to the dress, and green studs can stand in for Ahsoka’s green lightsaber. While Ahsoka’s Padawan braid is made of silka beads, you can DIY your own beaded headband to finish the look.

You’re probably going to be familiar with this feisty lady. This is Padme Amidala, former Queen of Naboo, Senator to the Galactic Republic, and secret wife of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. Most of her time is spent in the Republic capital of Coruscant, advocating for a peaceful resolution of the civil war. Though she believes in the power of diplomacy over warfare, Padme is not afraid to take up a laser gun or two to defend herself and those around her. She is determined, selfless, and always puts her people before herself. In the harsh political environment of the Senate, Padme wears long heavy dresses as her own form of armor. On missions, she wears comfortable and colorful clothes. When she is free from her job, both Padme’s mood and style lighten and loosen up. And of course, she wouldn’t be Padme without her elaborate hairstyles.

Tying in both the light of her personality and the dreariness of the Senate, this ombre maxi dress is both casual and classy. Cover those shoulders with a tough denim vest and tie on your strappy black sandals. We can’t forget Padme’s opulent hairpieces, and this Etsy find doesn’t disappoint.

Sith apprentice turned witch turned bounty hunter, Asajj Ventress is a woman of many masks. Once the dark apprentice of Count Dooku (and his preferred elite assassin), she was betrayed by her master and has been on the run since, narrowly escaping death multiple times in the process. Though she’s a bit rough around the edges, Ventress proves to be an unlikely ally to the Jedi in times of need.

Ventress is too busy fighting for her life to worry about the latest trends. This outfit is all about utility and comfort, while still packing a stylish punch. Skinny jeans keep it sleek, while a hooded tunic adds an air of mystery. The red bangle brings to mind Ventress’ Sith lightsabers and the way literal sparks fly when she’s in battle. The blue string bracelet represents her magical past as a Nightsister and brings out the blue of her eyes. Lastly, sassy wedges add height without making it impossible to walk.

“Men go to battle, but women wage war.”- The White Queen trailer. While Anakin and Obi-Wan are excellent commanders and leaders, let’s admit that they would be helpless without these women. Ahsoka and Padme spend their lives fighting for the Republic, whether on the battlefield or on the Senate floor. Ventress has proven herself to be an unlikely heroine in times of need. Though we may be unable to wield lightsabers in everyday life, we can emulate these valiant women through our own style and poise. If you haven’t seen Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I highly suggest looking it up on Netflix and spending a few hours snuggled beneath an R2-D2 blankie to watch it. Not only can you learn great battle strategies, but you might also pick up on some fashion inspiration.

Have a lovely day!
